Do & Do Not in Newsgroups

Do...

  • ... post the complete error message.
  • ... use punctation. Nobody cares about grammar mistakes, but it is difficult to read long messages without punct and/or comma.
  • ... write what you have done. Nobody (except for your boss, but we will not tell him :-), cares if what you have done is stupid. We will tell you what you did wrong, and how to fix it (if we can), but if you do not tell us what you did, it is more difficult for us to help you.
  • ... post the information we ask for if we need more information. Do not post information about something else, listen to what we say.
  • ... use proper language in the newsgroup!

Do Not...

  • ... write "...and then I get an error..." The first thing we will ask is what error message you got. Save us (and you) the time by posting the complete error message the first time.
  • ... get upset if someone gives you a good advice (yes, it happens!).
  • ... ask for replies from MVPs only. MVPs do not know everything, and a non-MVP might be able to give you better help than an MVP.
  • ... write the Subject line or Message in CAPITALS. (Click "Caps-Lock" once, and it will return to normal letters).
  • ... multipost. If necessary, cross-post (that is include multiple newsgroups in the Newsgroups/To line, separated by a comma or semicolon).
