When I try to install Office 2000 on a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server i get this error message: "Some default settings in Microsoft Office 2000 setup do not work properly on a Windows Terminal Server..." How do I install Office 2000 on Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server?

The complete error message is:

Some default settings in Microsoft Office 2000 setup do not work properly on a Windows Terminal Server. To install Office on Terminal Server you must use the instructions and tools available in your Office 2000 Resource Kit or at http://www.microsoft.com/Office/ORK

To be able to install Office 2000 on Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server, you must first install the Terminal Server Tools transform file from Microsoft Office Resource Kit, and then install Office 2000 using the transform file.

  • Get the Office 2000 Resource Kit. For more information about this, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/default.htm.
  • Install the Office Resource Kit
  • Go to a command prompt, and type: "change user /install" (without the quotes)
  • Install the Terminal Server Tools from the Office Resource Kit
  • Open a command prompt and type:
        X:\Setup.exe TRANSFORMS="C:\Program Files\ORKTools\Toolbox\Tools\Terminal Server Tools\TermSrvr.mst"

(It should be on one line only!)
Where X: is the letter of your CD-ROM (if you install from another location, use that path instead). This time the quotes should be there!
  • Change back to execute mode by typing:
        change user /execute
