I cannot log on a computer that runs Windows 95 or NT4.0 SP2, why?

When you try to logon to a Windows NT 4.0 computer with SP2 or earlier installed, which is a member to a domain, you will get this error message:

The system could not log you on. Make sure your username and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is not accidentally on.

For Windows 95, the error message is:

The domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your logon server has been denied.

Windows Server 2003 requires a secure communcation with SMB signing, and NT 4.0 and Windows 95 do not have SMB packet signing enabled, and can therefore not authenticate.

Please see KB Article 811497 for a solution to this problem.
